Song Demo: “One of These Days”

“One of These Days,” by Scotty and the Skeptics. Here is a major hit for a female country singer or a band like the Drive by Truckers. My friend and business partner, the late, great, Keith Allen, plays guitar, with Marcus Webster on drums, Michael Rivinius on  bass, and Phil Hersch engineering and playing banjo. All I do is sing, though I’ve updated the vocal tracks and tweaked the lyrics a couple times in the decades since that studio session.

He had no feelin in his feet

Rubbed his hands to make some heat

                                   Semi’s kicked up whirlwinds

                                  Along that dirty, salty road

Cold and tired he walked along

An empty heart, a hopeful song

                                  Dreamin’ dreams of memories

                                  That never lasted long.

One o’ these days, one o’ these days

Nothin’s quite as sure as change

                                                           Gonna find the right woman

                                                           Gonna settle down

And those winds won’t blow so cold

One o’ these days, one o’ these days

Nothin’s quite as sure as change

                                                           Gonna find the right woman

                                                           Gonna settle down

And those winds won’t blow so cold

When he was young and green

He put his faith in bein’ free

                                  Figured that true happiness

Must lay in tryin’ every road

But that road’s hard on your soul

                                  Without love, so much alone

And when you’re all alone even summer winds

Can chill you to the bone.

                                                                    CHORUS

A warm body in the night

                                  To caress until the light

                                  Faceless names from lusty games

Then that road wind blowin’ snow

How many winter’s had it been

Since a lover he could call a friend

Just one night stands never holdin’ hands

Before that wind would start to blow.

                                                                    CHORUS

                                                                    REPEAT CHORUS
