San Francisco Sunset

I was working on The Energy Caper one afternoon in March when I turned around and saw the sunset bouncing off the Bank of America building and reflecting like a searchlight across the water. I raced to find the camera, and was lucky to capture it before the sun sank below the horizon. For days afterward I waited, camera at-the-ready, hoping to document it more thoroughly. But a series of storms came through, and when the rain and the fog finally cleared enough to give the setting sun a straight shot at the skyline through the Golden Gate, the angle was wrong. I can't say if this is a one-day per cycle event, like Stonehenge. Weather permitting, the reflection might appear for several days. All I know for sure is that in the five years I lived there, I only saw this that one time.
