Through the Gateway of the Heart, Second EditionThe substance known as "ecstasy" or MDMA has a paradoxical double role in contemporary society. As ecstasy it is consumed by tens (perhaps hundreds) of thousands of individuals at rave dance parties in the US, Europe, and the Far East. As the empathogenic (or entactogenic) therapeutic adjunct to psychotherapy MDMA it is being actively researched as a promising treatment for PTSD, obsessive-compulsive neurosis, and interpersonal anxiety.
This book, originally compiled and written in the early 1980s (before MDMA became illegal) is a collection of experience accounts, in supportive and/or therapeutic settings, that illustrate its value in generating insight, facilitating empathic communication, and supporting spiritual practice.
Although the use of MDMA remains illegal, except in the limited context of therapy research, the editors, like many professionals, believe that a fresh look at this very promising substance is warranted.
