This is a heartfelt love song with a baseball theme. I wrote it into my first novel, The Energy Caper, or Nixon in the Sky With Diamonds, in a scene in which two characters, Jenny and McGill, who have known each other only a couple of days, have attended a baseball game. Afterward, unknown to her, McGill, who is head-over-heels smitten, wrote her this song. When he sings it to her she says she likes it and that it sounds like a James Taylor song but that it’s “kind of shmaltzy” and asks who wrote it.

Scotty and the Skeptics
I’ve been concealing this feeling and hiding my fears
Afraid of striking out after so many tears
But now I’m comin’ to bat gonna win the whole thing
You can’t get a hit if you don’t take a swing
I want to be your guy
I want you to be my woman
I want to be your guy
And your best friend
I want some kids
I want you to be their mother
And in the night
I want to be your man
Yeah in the night
I want to be your man
I want to be your guy
I want you to be my woman
I want to be the guy
On whom you depend
I want to have some kids
I want you to be their mother
And in the night
I want to be your man
Yeah in the night
I want to be your man
Well don’t say anything now just keep me in mind
I’ll be around for the rest of my life
And if you give me the chance to play ball with you
We’ll hit a grand slam when we say I do.
I want to be your guy
I want youto be my woman
I want to be the guy
On whom you depend
I want to have some kids
I want you to be their mother
And in the night
I want to be your man
Yeah in the night
I want to be your man
I want to be your guy
I want you to be my woman
I want to be your guy
And your best friend
I want some kids
I want you to be their mother
And in the night
I want to be your man
Yeah in the night
I want to be your man
